Phishing attacks targeting businesses rapidly increasing
For a long time now the online security of your business has remained a priority in corporate boardrooms and for small companies alike. Phishing attacks targeting businesses are now a high risk to all companies and on the increase.
What is a Phishing attack?
Phishing is one of the biggest cyber threats we are facing, and everyone within your organisation should be extremely vigilant against such attacks.
Phishing usually starts by email and can reach millions of users directly. Phishing is a ‘social engineering attack’ used by cyber criminals to steal user data, including login credentials and credit card numbers. It occurs when an attacker attempts to trick users into doing ‘the wrong thing’, such as clicking a link that will download malware or steal intellectual property and money.
The National Cyber Security Centre have launched its Suspicious Email Reporting Service into which the public can report any suspicious email. https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/information/report-suspicious-emails
Our insurer partner Zurich has produced a comprehensive fact sheet about defending your organisation from a Phishing attack and how to develop a mitigation strategy: https://insider.zurich.co.uk/app/uploads/2020/08/Phishing-attacks-Defending-your-organisation.pdf
In most cases companies don’t know a cyber attack has happened until it’s too late.
Today cyber risks are an exposure that no modern business can escape.
If your business does not have cyber insurance then you are potentially exposed to huge financial losses that can be incurred when your IT system comes under attack. This can lead to costs from handling a data breach, lost revenue, a damaged reputation, legal and regulatory costs, not to mention the disruption to your business.
